Smart home specialist Homey has partnered with solar technology provider Jackery to create SolarVault 3, a new plug-in home battery series, which will give households live, up-to-date information on how much electricity they’re using.

Using live data from the Homey Energy Dongle and P1 smart meter interface, the Jackery SolarVault 3 will supply the right amount of power a household needs based on how much it is actually using. This is different to other battery systems that rely on fixed charging or discharging schedules and can help a household become less reliant on the grid.

Batteries are becoming more important for households hoping to cut their bills with the war in Ukraine and a fragile peace between US and Iran making energy prices unpredictable

The partnership is intended to help households make better use of their own renewable electricity by increasing self-consumption, reducing unnecessary exports to the grid and responding more effectively to dynamic electricity tariffs.

Stefan Witkamp, CEO of Athom (and creator of Homey) explained that “energy prices are volatile, and the case for self-consumption has never been stronger.

“A plug-in battery becomes much more useful when it can respond to what’s happening at home. With Homey, Jackery’s SolarVault 3 can do exactly that.”

One of the key selling points of the system is its straightforward setup process. Customers connect the Homey Energy Dongle to their smart meter and link it to the Jackery battery through the Homey app. According to both companies, no modifications are required to existing installations, helping to lower the barrier to adoption for homeowners interested in home energy storage.

Homey and Jackery have also said that this is only the first stage of the partnership. Additional software features are expected to launch in July, introducing more energy management capabilities. Planned updates include intelligent charging and discharging based on weather forecasts and household usage patterns, optimisation for dynamic electricity tariffs, and coordination with connected devices such as EV chargers, heat pumps and smart plugs.

The goal is to automatically shift energy use to times when it is most beneficial or cost-effective for the household.

Jackery will showcase the SolarVault 3 plug-in home battery range with Homey integration at the Smarter E Europe exhibition in Munich from 23 to 25 June, where visitors will be able to see the system in action.

The launch reflects growing demand for smarter home energy solutions as households seek greater control over rising energy costs while making better use of renewable generation. For battery manufacturers, integrating with home energy management platforms is increasingly becoming a way to unlock additional savings and flexibility for consumers.
