Alpha, a UK-based heating specialist, has launched a new hybrid heat pump and a boiler, in a bid to help improve energy efficiency in homes.

The Alpha Custom Hybrid is a fully tailored solution suitable for all types of homes, including those with high hot water demands, the company said.

The hybrid technology combines a range of heat pump outputs with both combi and system boilers, all managed by a built-in smart control. This automatically chooses the most efficient heating source based on real-time demand, reducing carbon emissions and maximising energy savings, according to Alpha.

The Custom Hybrid also provides additional heating capacity when the heat pump alone might not be sufficient to meet demand, and is an extension to Alpha’s hybrid offering, joining the manufacturers popular E-Tec Hybrid packaged solution.

Dan Wilden, national renewables manager, Alpha, said that the decision behind the launch was due to the fact that many properties in the UK, particularly older ones, are unable to make the switch to more energy efficient heating because they aren’t designed to support heat pumps.

He added that, as a result, the Alpha Custom Hybrid provides a robust, flexible solution for delivering energy efficient heating and hot water, while simplifying the installation on site.

The Alpha Custom Hybrid connects a single-phase Magis M heat pump with any E-Tec or Evoke combi or system boiler using a Hybrid Interface Kit. It is specially designed to connect the Magis M heat pumps with the E-Tec NX, NX Plus and Evoke NX boiler ranges, meaning the kit fits directly beneath the boiler and enables fast, simple installation.

Wilden said a choice of heat pump outputs (16kW) is available to match the desired heating load and determine the ideal balance between the heat pump and boiler’s contributions to the heating requirements.

The Magic M smart control monitors and manages the heat sources to maintain the required room temperatures, activating the boiler to provide additional heat as required.

Andrea Carmeli, managing director, Alpha, said of the launch that the company is “committed to providing our customers with high-quality solutions enabling the switch to renewable energy”.
