UK’s largest energy provider to make Zero Bills available to homes north of the border
News follows announcement that homes in France are also eligible
Octopus Energy aiming for 100,000 homes paying nothing in energy bills by 2030
The company said it had launched the initiative in 57 properties at the Tranent Grove development in North Dundee
The company said it had launched the initiative in 57 properties at the Tranent Grove development in North Dundee, and will all be eligible for the tariff as an optional upgrade for buyers.
The rollout marks the first time that Octopus Energy has made the Zero Bills tariff available in Scotland. The tariff is meant to make green technology, such as solar panels, solar batteries and heat pumps available, as well as no home energy bills for at least five-to-10 years, for people moving into new homes.

The news comes just after Octopus Energy launched the tariff in France, which is the fourth country it has done so after the UK, Germany and New Zealand.
Currently, more than 5,000 homes have been approved for the initiative through partnerships with developers, and Octopus Energy is aiming to roll Zero Bills to 100,000 homes by 2030. Private, affordable, and shared ownership homes are included.
Nigel Banks, director of Zero Bills, Octopus Energy, said Scotland was the “perfect next spot” for the Zero Bills initiative because it is a “renewable energy powerhouse”. He said that by working with Discovery Homes, the developer responsible for the Tranent Grove homes, and others, Octopus Energy was “bringing the reality of no home energy bills to the people of Scotland”.
Grant White, director, Discovery Homes, said the company was offering “long-term financial peace of mind” and a “sustainable lifestyle”.
