Homeowners might soon have another heat pump to choose from with US firm MRCOOL launching its Monoblock MTHP Series, an all-in-one, wall mounted heat pump that can keep a home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Unlike regular heat pumps, the Monoblock MTHP series is contained within a single indoor unit. MRCOOL says that installation only needs two discreet exterior wall openings for airflow. This makes it easier for to install it in locations where it might not be practical to do so inside.
The company says the Monoblock is designed for spaces that need independent temperature control without the complex installations of some regular heat pump technology.
The company describes it as “the ideal climate change choice for backyard work-from-home shed, smaller homes and garage conversions.” It could even be used in flats and compact, shared living spaces.
Christian Rea, Director of MRCOOL, said the series “adds climate control to spaces that are traditionally difficult to condition”.
“By eliminating the high cost and hassle associated with an outdoor condenser, we’ve reduced installation time by 60% compared to central systems.”
While heat pumps are commonly used as a more efficient and cleaner alternative to gas boilers, they can also be used as air conditioning. An air-to-air heat pump is essentially an air conditioner that heats up and cools down air depending on your need. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £2,500 towards the cost of an air-to-air heat pump.
