Audi has expanded its Q5 range with the addition of an SUV and Sportback plug-in hybrid model to offer space, versatility, quattro drive and suitability for everyday use.

The new Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro and the Audi Q5 Sportback e-hybrid quattro have a 2.0 TSFI engine, with an output of 251PS (185 kW) and an electric motor. Both models also have a 220kW total system power, meaning it’s possible to go from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds, with a total top speed of 155mph.

In addition to this, both models will have a new generation of high-voltage batteries that offers around 45% more capacity, offering 25.9kWh of power. The cells in the Q5 e-hybrid are arranged on two levels, one on top of the other. Audi has boosted the battery’s capacity to 25.9kWh, with a maximum charging power of 11kW and takes 2.5 hours to charge to 100%, if it’s empty.

Two operating models are available within the range: EV or hybrid. In EV mode, the SUV and Sportback run exclusively on electricity, but in hybrid mode, it maintains a specific charge level as needed in order to save enough electrical energy for later use. The desired level can also be individually selected for the first time using a digital slider.

Audi has helped the two new models stand out above other models with its S sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights plus and LED rear lights pro as standard. Drivers also benefit from the Audi Application Store, a smartphone interface and the Audi sound system, as well a fully adjustable rear seat bench, which can be moved lengthwise.

The Audi Q5 SUV e-hybrid quattro is available in the UK and its price starts at £56,740, with the Sportsback e-hybrid quattro starting at £59,240. Both models are available now.

The Audi Q5 e-hybrid models offer improved attributes and aim to offer drivers a comfortable feeling of space.

Its features include:

  • A fully adjustable rear seat bench that can be moved lengthwise and its angle tilted, increasing the boot volume or comfort for rear passengers required. The rear bench seats three people.
  • The SUV has a boot volume of 438 litres, while the Sportback offers 433 litres of storage space.
  • With the rear seats folded down, the transport volume increases to up to 1,358 litres in the SUV and 1,300 litres in the Sportback.
  • Larger storage compartment compared to previous models.
  • Numerous storage compartments for sunglasses, keys and other everyday items
  • Two USB-C ports in the front and two in the rear

The hybrid management system is provided by a permanently excited synchronous motor with a peak output of 105kW and the electric motor is integrated into the housing of the seven-speed S tronic.

A spokesperson for Audi said that the hybrid mode is most efficient for both short and long distances. They said that depending on the driving situation and the driver’s power needs, the operating strategy decides where to drive in an electric or hybrid mode in order to be as efficient as possible.

The hybrid models prefer to drive electrically in urban areas and at higher speeds, the proportion of hybrid driving increases.
