- In this week’s edition, we look at why drilling in the North Sea is a waste of time and money
- We also have a new sodium-based battery that its manufacturers say is safer and more reliable than its rivals
- Will the government be handing out free plug-in batteries
It’s been hard to watch the news week, or scroll social media, or indeed that showed whole parts of Europe and the UK devastated by wild fires caused by this year’s terrible heatwave.
It’s also hard to understand why, in that context, anyone would call for the UK government to contribute to global warming by drilling in the North Sea.
However you look at it, approving the licenses at Rosebank and Jackdaw would be incomprehensibly stupid for the simple fact it would generate no meaningful benefit to consumers, households, or even the Treasury.
It would only generate profit for oil companies and do nothing to bring down bills. Even the possible taxes it would generate would so puny that it wouldn’t be worth climbing up the ladder of the offshore rig.
There has never been a more important time to make the argument for clean energy. At The Eco Experts, we have always done our best to support governments that have looked after the environment and billpayers.
We see no distinction, what’s good for the planet is good for people, and we see no good in drilling further into a near-depleted basin for scraps of fossil fuels that we can’t even use. Today more than ever we say: leave the North Sea alone.
Drilling in the North Sea would be a waste of time
There are numerous reasons to turn our back on drilling for oil and gas. We’ve listed a few of them here.
Government doesn’t commit to free batteries
Reports last week suggested that the government was going to buy plug-in batteries in bulk and offer them to low-income households. However, DESNZ insists its priority is rolling out plug-in solar panels. Read more here.
New storage battery on its way to households
UNIGRID’s new solar battery is safer, more reliable and more eco-friendly than lithium batteries. Read more here.
Donald Trump withholds clean energy funds from states that didn’t vote for him
Yes, really. It’s never been more important that people from across society have access to clean energy and its enormous benefits. The US president on the hand doesn’t believe in clean energy and yet sees fit to withhold it from his political rivals. Read more here.
