Chinese manufacturer Geely has unveiled a new plug-in hybrid SUV model, which is expected to launch in the UK in February.

The Starray EM-i Super Hybrid will have a £29,990 starting price and an electric-only range of up to 84 miles, and is the answer to its rivals like the Chery Tiggo 7.

Designed for drivers who want efficiency, technology and confidence, the new plug-in hybrid will be sold alongside the manufacturer’s electric EX5 and comes with an eight-year or 125,000-mile warranty.

According to the manufacturer, the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid is a compact EV and will have three trim levels: Pro (start at £29,990), Max (starts at £32,690) and Ultra (£34,990).

It combines a 1.5l petrol engine with a motor and battery, and entry-level models will get an 18.4kWh battery, while the Ultra versions have a 28.9kWh battery. This is capable of providing up to 84 miles of fully electric driving or a combined journey distance of 618 miles.

All models come with a host of safety features, including keyless entry, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as heated front seats with electric adjustments.

In October last year, Geely entered the UK electric vehicle (EV) market for the first time with its all-electric SUV, the EX5.

The EX5 uses a short blade battery to support fast charging with minimal downtime, going from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes. New customers could make use of its EV grant, saving them up to £3,750.

It has an 11-in-one electric drive unit that delivers 160kW of peak power with high efficiency, compact design, advanced cooling and zero emissions to ensure a powerful, smooth and eco-friendly performance.

The Zero Sensation Relief Layer also offers soothing support, the ventilation layer enhances breathability and the heating layer provides warmth, while the PVC layer adds durability.
