2. Types of Viessmann Boilers

Viessmann produces a wide range of gas condensing boilers under the company’s Vitodens brand name. Regardless of the size of your home, there is almost certainly a Vitodens boiler model that will meet your requirements. But are they any good?

When gas condensing technology generates energy it retains and converts it, too, ensuring that optimal levels of heat are delivered to properties big and small.

According to Viessmann, gas condensing boilers are the most popular system for providing heating and hot water in UK households. Certainly, they are typically much more efficient than most other types of boilers.

As well as providing affordable heating, a Viessmann boiler is simple to operate in your home.

Smart tech: Each Viessmann gas condensing boiler is fitted with tado° or ViCare smart thermostat technology, making it even easier to control your home’s central heating and water temperature, thanks to a free smartphone app that is available for both Android and Apple devices.

The small print: Just know that in order for this type of boiler to work properly, a fan-assisted flue will need to be installed (if it is not already in place), which safely vents smoke via your property’s external wall.

What kind of gas condensing boilers does Viessmann make?

There are 3 kinds of Vitodens gas condensing boilers to choose from:

  1. Combi boilers – Compact in size and designed for smaller properties, particularly those with little or no roof space.

  2. System boilers – Built for homes with more than 1 bathroom. System boilers don’t require a loft-located tank and are compatible with Solar Water Heating (SWH) systems.

  3. Conventional boilers – ideal for properties that have 2 or more bathrooms and/or low water pressure (and for whenever it’s necessary for family members to use lots of hot water at once). Conventional boilers are also SWH-compatible.

Control your boiler from your pocket: Each Vitodens boiler model comes with tado° or ViCare, a simple and efficient way to fully control your heating system via your smartphone, no matter where you are.

Whenever you want to return to a nice, warm home, simply adjust the temperature settings by using the app on your phone.

Which Viessmann boiler is for me? Rest assured, all the above boilers are recommended by our experienced boiler experts, and all but the 242-F Combi are Which? Best Buys to boot. But the 100-W Boiler is Viessmann’s best-selling gas condensing boiler.

Just note that for many Viessmann boilers, you'll only get the full warranty period if you have your boiler installed by a Viessmann-trained engineer and registered through Viessmann’s Installer Portal.

Essentially, there are 6 Vitodens boilers available from Viessmann, and all these are ideal for homes.

Which model is for me? With at least 2 versions of each model, there’s plenty to choose from.

For instance, the Vitodens 050-W is a combi boiler that comes with energy outputs of 29 kW or 35 kW. The Vitodens 100-W, on the other hand, is available in 10 different models, offering conventional, combi and system options – and energy outputs that range from 19 kW to 35 kW.

The Vitodens boilers will help you cut your energy bills. Each Vitodens boiler comes with a high Seasonal Efficiency of Domestic Boilers in the UK (SEDBUK) rating – any boiler with a 90% score or above is given an ‘A’ rating.

4. Viessmann Boiler Prices

  • Trustpilot rating: Great (from 9 verified user reviews)
  • Which? rating: 86%
  • Eco Experts rating:

How did we rate Viessmann? Of course, it pays to find out as much as possible about what customers and installers have to say about a company and its products.

6. What Are My Payment Options?

Before choosing your boiler, it’s good to bear in mind that going for the cheapest option isn’t necessarily the best long-term strategy. Paying a little more for quality will almost certainly guarantee fewer issues, not to mention smaller repair bills, further down the line.

It’s a good idea to secure 3 independent quotes from trusted suppliers before proceeding because costs can vary quite a bit. We built a quote-finder form to make this step as easy as possible.

When you have decided on the best boiler for your household, you’ll have 3 options:

  1. Use a boiler replacement company – You should have access to a number of local experts that will be able to provide several options, and many will also offer 0% financing.
  2. Contact your energy supplier for advice - British Gas, for example, supply Viessmann’s boilers.
  3. Buy direct from a supplier - And always remember: hiring anyone other than a Gas Safe-registered engineer to carry out an installation is illegal, potentially dangerous and will likely invalidate your warranty.

7. Servicing and Repairs

Break-downs are rare. Viessmann has a stellar reputation for the quality of its boilers. The company sets itself apart from rivals through its use of a stainless steel heat exchanger, which is extremely resistant to corrosion.

A cut above the rest? All Viessmann’s competitors utilise an aluminium heat exchanger that is more likely to be damaged due to a tendency to corrode much more quickly.

How often do Viessmann boilers need servicing? At The Eco Experts, we recommend an annual servicing to keep your boiler in sound working condition. That said, Viessmann offers extensive after-sales support should a fault ever develop.

Check your warranty. Of course, each Viessmann boiler comes with a warranty (ranging from 2 to 10 years), ensuring that for the length of the term, most repairs will be completely free.

Decent engineers: Viessmann has exclusive access to Gas Safe-registered engineers all around the UK. If an expert is required, he or she will come to your home fully equipped to ensure they can fix the majority of repairs there and then.
