OVO Energy and Havenwise have announced a new program to help households cut heating bills, reduce carbon emissions and stay comfortable in the winter by using heat pumps.
The Heat Pump Flex Trial was launched earlier this month and will run until March 2026. It will let households know how flexible, data-driven control of heat pumps can lower their costs, while supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy grid.
The Trial will include selected OVO customers with Vaillant or Mitsubishi heat pumps, using Havenwise’s smart-control app and algorithms.
Henri Casteleyn, co-founder, Havenwise said that customers will be able to set their comfort preferences in the app where Havenwise will then work remotely to optimise the heat pump to use power at a greener, off peak times. Customers will remain in full control of temperature settings.
“Havenwise exists to make heat pumps better for homeowners: lower bills, easier control, fewer worries,” he said. “This partnership is the first of its kind and will show what’s possible with heat pumps.”
The trial announcement, according to Chris Watling, clean heat lead, OVO Energy, follows recent news that shows the continued decline in supplies from the UK Continental Shelf has resulted in the tightest gas supply margins in four years.
OVO’s existing Heat Pump Plus tariff add-on already enables customers with compatible heat pumps to pay just 15p/kWh for electricity used by their heat pump, helping make clean heating more affordable.
“This trial is a chance to show how intelligent heat pump control can deliver both comfort and cost savings, while supporting a greener grid, ” Watling said.
“With Havenwise onboard, we believe many households will see real benefits without needing to lift a finger.”
