Bentley has unveiled plans to launch its first ever electric vehicle (EV), following in the footsteps of competitor luxury car brands such as Ferrari

Named the Torcal, the EV will set “extraordinary benchmarks” and be “the most considered car” in Bentley’s history  according to the company’s chairman and CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser.

He also said it will offer “effortless performance, outstanding comfort” and “exquisite British handcraftsmanship”.

What do we actually know about the Bentley Torcal? Right now, not much. The company has said it plans to launch the new EV but won’t unveil the vehicle until 23rd September 2026.

This means we don’t know how long it will take to charge, how far its range will be, its top speed, power outputs, or even the price.

We don’t even know for sure what it will look like.

However, according to Top Gear, who have had a sneak preview, it has a “bluff front end, quite a low-slung SUV silhouette” and has more luggage and leg room than the Bentayga, one of Bentley’s other cars.

Top Gear also describes the front-end as being “dominated by a huge grille that illuminates via a series of 3D diamonds” which it says is “eye-catching”. This diamond grille can be switched off if it’s too distracting. The magazine also claims the interior of the Torcal is “magnificently appointed”.

By unveiling the Torcal, Bentley will be following fellow premium car brand Ferrari in leaping into the world of electrification.

Back in May, The Eco Experts reported how Ferrari had launched the Luce, its first EV,despite Donald Trump’s efforts to hamstring the EV market through revoking measures designed to encourage electrification.

Unfortunately, the Luce wasn’t very well received because it’s not what’s expected of traditional luxury car manufacturers, we’ll see how Bentley handles the release of the Torcal differently

The US-Iran war, which now seems like a permanent fixture in the headlines, has caused chaos in the oil and gas markets. Ferrari and Bentley’s newfound commitment to electrification is great news for the clean energy sector. We’ll bring you more detail on the Bentley Torcal when we have it.
