Who is Project Solar?

Founded in 2011 by Gurmukh Singh Bahra, Project Solar has been run by Simon Peat since 2012, with Andrew Walton-Green and Colin Wood joining as directors in 2018.

Located in the Midlands town of Burton-on-Trent, the company supplies customers all over the UK with solar panels, solar roof tiles, solar batteries, electric vehicle charging points, infrared heaters, and smart heating controls.

Since it was founded more than a decade ago, Project Solar has carried out 35,000 solar installations that save 3,750 tonnes of greenhouse gases from being emitted every year.

That’s 595 British people’s emissions completely cancelled out, according to government data and our calculations. Not bad at all.

And it’s paying off financially. The company’s latest report reveals that it made more than £5.8 million in gross profits during 2021, despite the impact of COVID-19.

In fact, the directors wrote in the report: “Current results show the company is trading profitably, with a level of demand not seen since pre-Feed-in Tariff times.”

Project Solar’s solar panels

Project Solar offers customers the choice between two top-notch solar panels.

Let’s have a look at these products, and see whether they’re worth your time and money.

Perlight Delta

Power coefficientEfficiencyProduct warrantySize (m²)
400W21.3%Lifetime1.88

The Perlight Delta turns sunshine into solar energy at 21.3% efficiency, which is one of the best rates around for domestic solar panels.

And none of its competitors can match its market-best lifetime warranty.

That means the Perlight Delta can supply you with free, eco-friendly electricity for decades, without you needing to worry.

SunPower E20 Series

Power coefficientEfficiencyProduct warrantySize (m²)
327W20.4%25 years1.63

SunPower’s panel won’t produce as much energy as the Perlight Delta, but 327 watts is still more than enough to make it a wise purchase.

At 18.6 kg, the E20 Series is one of the lightest top-tier models on the market, meaning your roof should be fully equipped to deal with its weight.

And what’s more, its extremely slim 1.63 m² size allows you to fit more panels onto your roof. This means you can produce more solar power, and therefore save more money on your energy bills.

Project Solar’s solar batteries

If you’re looking to use more of your energy instead of selling it back to the Grid for considerably less than it’s worth, you’re in the right place.

Solar batteries can store all the power your panels absorb, so you can take full advantage of the sun’s clean, free energy – and Project Solar offers batteries from two excellent companies: Fox and SolaX.

These two battery specialists both offer models between 2.5 and 6.5 kWh, which is more than enough capacity to store all of your excess energy.

You can even tack on additional batteries – all the way up to around 20 kwh – if your needs increase at any point.

If you have an electric vehicle, you can use your extra solar energy to charge it at night, and if you’re ever left with extra energy you’ll never use, you can sign up for a company’s Smart Export Guarantee rate and tell your battery to send it back to the Grid.

Project Solar also offers warranties between 10 and 15 years, covering a typical battery’s lifespan and meaning you can relax in the knowledge you’ve made a safe investment.

Customer reviews

Project Solar has a fantastic Trustpilot rating: 4 out of 5.

And with more than 2,500 reviews to date, you can be confident you’re making the right decision by going with Project Solar.

Accreditations

Project Solar has numerous accreditations and licences, showing that it holds a prominent, trusted position in the renewables market.

The company is accredited by the government-approved National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT) as well as the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

An MCS-accredited installation is often crucial to accessing government grants like the Smart Export Guarantee, which will net you, on average, £112 per year.

Project Solar also belongs to the Home Insulation and Energy Systems Quality Assured Contractors Scheme (HIES), a consumer protection organisation that ensures its members keep to a strict code of practice.

If a HIES member leaves you dissatisfied, you can instantly take your complaint to HIES, who will ensure the situation is resolved.

Along the same lines, Project Solar is part of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), meaning it must adhere to a high level of quality in everything it does. If the company ever falls from these lofty standards, the ISO will expel it.

This also goes for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute's Consumer Code Approval Scheme, which ensures all of its members trade fairly on the market, with no hint of scam or fraud.

Project Solar also is trusted to supply renewable products by solar manufacturers Perlight, SolarX, SunPower, and Tigo Energy, as well as cutting-edge developers cürv and Growatt.

Summary

Project Solar has sold some of the best solar equipment on the market for more than a decade.

So you can trust that when this company chooses to add a product to its list of offerings, it’s a high-quality item that will cut your carbon footprint and your energy bills.

And as an added bonus, going solar could make your home more saleable, with 65% of people telling our National Home Energy Survey that they'd be likely to buy a house with solar panels.

If you’d like to see how much a solar panel system would cost you, just enter a few quick details into our free tool, and our specialist suppliers will provide you with quotes to compare.
