Octopus Energy has come out on top of a survey of more than 2000 UK energy bill payers, conducted on behalf of Expert Reviews – pic credit: Octopus Energy

Octopus Energy has been named the Best Energy Supplier in the UK in Expert Reviews’ Home Energy Awards, fending off competition from British Gas, E.ON and EDF.

The largest energy company in the UK, pipped its rivals thanks to its overwhelmingly positive customer satisfaction rates, value for money, clarity of its bills, and the huge emphasis it places on renewable energy.

Consumer electronics and technology specialists Expert Reviews surveyed more than 2000 UK energy bill payers, with 91% of Octopus Energy’s customers saying they were either “extremely likely” or “likely” to recommend the company to others.

On top of that, more than half (53%) said they were “extremely likely” to recommend it, five points ahead of second place Utility Warehouse.

As well as being the provider that customers are most likely to recommend, it is also the most trusted, with 30% saying that they “completely trust it to act in their best interest”.

When it comes to complaints, again Octopus Energy was the clear winner. A huge 85% of customers surveyed said they were either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with how their complaints were dealt with, far ahead of Utility Warehouse at 69%.

This is in addition to data from energy regulator Ofgem, which said that Octopus Energy had just 561 complaints per 100,000 customers, the lowest number of all the companies in Expert Reviews’ survey.

As well as being easy to use and having great customer service, Octopus Energy was also recognised for its clean energy generation; the company matches 100% of the electricity it generates with energy from renewable sources.

It makes it really easy to use renewable technology, such as solar panels, by offering fixed and flexible tariffs that let you export unused energy back to the grid by the Smart Export Guarantee, including one that tracks the wholesale energy price, meaning your rate is updated daily.

Octopus Energy is certainly a great choice, especially if you’re keen to cut your carbon footprint, want bills that are clear to read, and are interested in clean power.

Some of its recent announcements include its Zero Bills Standard, which it hopes to make 100,000 homes ‘bill free’ by 2030, an initiative that it is using in the UK, Germany and New Zealand.

According to Expert Reviews, Octopus Energy offers “good value for money and resolves complaints well, with very low numbers of customers feeling the need to complain.

“Octopus’ bills are clear and its website and app are easy to use. It also offers a wide range of tariffs, including ones that help EV owners and those generating their own electricity to save money.”

Will Georgiadis, Managing Editor, Expert Reviews, said: “We’re delighted to name Octopus Energy our favourite energy supplier of 2025. In a challenging landscape, consistently scoring well in the court of public opinion is an impressive achievement.

“This year’s survey underscored the work suppliers still need to do to win back consumer trust.

“That Octopus sits well above the average in this regard is a testament to its commitment to its customers in all areas, from value for money to handling complaints.”
