Delonghi Air Source Heat Pumps

What are Delonghi Heat Pumps?

Install a Delonghi air source heat pump and it could save you up to 70% on your hot water and heating bills. The reason? These pumps work by extracting heat from the air (a free and natural resource) and distributing it via radiators or underfloor heating systems.
As well as providing heating in the winter, these air source pumps are also able to provide air cooling in the warmer months. The way they work is not unlike the refrigerator in your home.

The Delonghi air source heat pump moves energy rather than burning it, making it highly efficient and environmentally friendly. Installation and maintenance is simple and includes a built in circulation pump. They range in capacity from 5kW to 2000kW and provide high outputs in very low temperatures. They work at low noise levels, are freeze proof and come with their own remote weather sensors.

All Delonghi air source heat pumps are designed to meet the client's specification. They work extremely well in UK weather conditions and have been used by commercial businesses for many years. They are slightly less efficient than ground source heat pumps but still deliver on an excellent level of performance during an average UK winter. They also provide an ideal alternative to ground source systems where space is short or budgets are tight. There is always heat energy in the air outside, even in freezing conditions and the Delonghi air source heat pump extracts this heat and converts it into high grade heat at approximately 500C or higher depending on unit type.

Installation

Delonghi air source heat pumps are installed outside of the property and connected to the internal plumbing system through insulated pipes. Connection is simple and requires no input from a refrigeration engineer. Due to the easy installation and low cost, they are now becoming increasingly popular within domestic properties as well as businesses. Your requirements will be assessed by the installer and the right system will be tailored to suit your needs. The installer will go through all considerations with you and make sure you are getting what you need.

Costs & Incentives

Installation of an air source heat pump does not require any ground works, which significantly reduces the cost of installation. There is no digging or drilling involved and therefore disruption is minimal. Costs vary greatly depending on unit size and type of property. However, you will be looking at somewhere between £5,000 and £10,000. Have your property assessed by a Delonghi engineer for an accurate estimate.

You may be eligible for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment which will donate a grant of £850 towards your air source heat pump installation. This money is issued in the form of a voucher which is then used to purchase the equipment. Support is also available through the RHI Premium Payment initiative, whereby in return for the payment, customers will be required to provide feedback on how the equipment works. RHI tariffs will become available at the same time as the introduction of The Green Deal in October 2012. You will need to seek advice on whether you will be eligible for the scheme but to give you an idea of what is expected, your home must be well insulated, energy efficient and hold a current Energy Performance Certificate. Homes with bad insulation will not be considered.

Worth Noting

There has been no indication of when the Renewable Heating Premium Payment scheme will come to an end and so you are advised to secure your grant as soon as possible. In order to claim your grant, the installer must be MCS accredited. You can expect to see high savings on energy bills which will ensure payback within 3 - 5 years. Finally, don't forget to check if you need planning permission.
